Sean Glynn is a Researcher at the University of Kent, affiliated with the School of Anthropology and Conservation and the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE). He holds a PhD in Biodiversity Management and focuses on biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration in tropical regions. His work is funded by the NERC ARIES DTP CASE partnership with Conservation International Guyana.
His research investigates the impacts of gold mining on vertebrate communities in the Amazon Basin, particularly the Guiana Shield, where deforestation and mercury contamination from artisanal mining threaten ecosystems. Glynn’s project addresses knowledge gaps to inform land restoration strategies, aiming to balance global gold demand with environmental sustainability.
He collaborates closely with Conservation International in Guyana and is supervised by Dr. Jake Bicknell, Dr. Matthew Struebig, and Professor Zoe Davies. Glynn’s affiliation with DICE positions him within a leading institution for conservation science, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to ecological challenges.
