Sean Christensen, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Yale University School of Medicine, serving as Director of Resident Education in Dermatologic Surgery and Director of Dermatologic Surgery at Yale Dermatology-Branford. His clinical practice focuses on skin cancer management, including Mohs micrographic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and field cancerization strategies. Research interests include molecular mechanisms of skin cancer development, UV-induced mutations, and optimizing preventive therapies. He leads a phase III clinical trial for a novel topical basal cell carcinoma treatment.
Education: MD from Yale University School of Medicine (2007), PhD from Yale Graduate School (2006), BS from University of California (1998). Completed residency and a procedural dermatology fellowship at Yale SOM.
Research highlights include defining follicular invasion markers in SCC, evaluating acitretin for skin cancer prevention, and comparing Mohs vs wide excision for melanoma outcomes. Awards include multiple Connecticut Top Doctors recognitions (2023, 2024). Leads clinical trials investigating UV exposure biomarkers and skin cancer risk.
