Scott Whiddon is a Professor and Director of the Writing Center at Transylvania University, where he teaches courses such as Writing for/with Nonprofits and Writing for Writing’s Sake. He holds a Ph.D. in English/Writing and Culture from Louisiana State University (2006), along with M.A. and M.F.A. degrees in English and Creative Writing from McNeese State University (1999), and a B.A. in English from Winthrop University (1996). His research focuses on writing center theory, composition studies, the literature of confinement, and rhetorical theory/genre studies. He emphasizes the recursive nature of writing, advocating for supportive feedback and risk-taking in student writing. Recognized for his contributions, he received the Southeastern Writing Center Achievement Award (2022) and the Martinson Award (2018). Whiddon has also been an invited keynote speaker at multiple conferences and has secured grants such as the Kenan/Jones Research Grant. Beyond academia, he actively performs music in local and regional festivals, blending his creative passions with scholarly work.
