Scott W Gregory is an Associate Professor of Chinese literature at the University of Arizona, specializing in late imperial vernacular fiction and the intersection with print culture. He co-directs the Center for East Asian Studies with Dr. Wenhao Diao. His research focuses on Ming Dynasty novels, historical self-representation in literature, and the cultural impact of print media, notably explored in his book Bandits in Print (Cornell University Press). He teaches courses such as EAS 160A3 (Chinese Civilization) and EAS 498H (Honors Thesis).
Dr. Gregory earned his PhD in 2012 from Princeton University and previously served as a visiting fellow at the National University of Singapore. He has lived in Taipei and Kyoto, enriching his cross-cultural research perspective. His work bridges literary analysis with historical and cultural methodologies, emphasizing the materiality of texts and reader engagement in late imperial China.
