Scott Trafton is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of South Carolina's McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. He specializes in African American literature, culture, and Black cultural studies, with a focus on race, place, and Afrocreole identity formation along the Gulf Coast.
- PhD from Duke University (1998)
His research examines intersections of race, visual culture, and historical memory, including work on 19th-century American Egyptomania and Afrocreole cultural adaptation along the Gulf Coast. He actively bridges academic scholarship with public engagement through experimental performance collaborations and community outreach.
