Dr. Scott Scheer is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership at The Ohio State University, within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Family Studies (Youth Focus) from the University of Delaware (1995), an M.A. in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University (1989), and a B.S. from Louisiana Tech University (1986). His research focuses on Outreach Education and Youth Development, with emphasis on inclusive programming, antiracist strategies, and community engagement.
Key research contributions include advancing 4-H programs, addressing youth development through volunteer-driven initiatives, and improving health and safety protocols in agricultural settings. Dr. Scheer has advised multiple graduate students and contributed to policy development in education and disability inclusion. His work integrates ecological models to enhance outreach program effectiveness and advocates for equitable access in youth and adult education.
Professional activities include interim chair roles, curriculum design for extension professionals, and collaboration with international partners on participatory development projects. He is actively engaged in improving volunteer training, youth leadership programs, and the well-being of farmers with disabilities through studies like the Ohio AgrAbility Project.
