معرفی
Scott Schappe is a Professor of Physics at Lake Forest College and Chair of Physics. He specializes in electron collisions with molecules and acoustic levitation, with research interests extending to musical sound. Dr. Schappe earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BS in Physics from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
His research focuses on atomic and molecular physics, particularly electron impact cross sections and quantum mechanical interactions. He has developed innovative methods for measuring electron-atom collision cross sections using atom traps and laser-cooled atoms. His 15 most recent publications span experimental physics, quantum mechanics, and spectroscopy, with notable work on acoustic levitation apparatus design and molecular excitation dynamics.
Scientific Awards:
- 1998 Research Corporation Grant ($29,400)
- 2001 LFC Academic Innovations Group award ($4,900)
Dr. Schappe teaches courses ranging from General Physics to Quantum Mechanics and Experimental Methods. His work bridges fundamental atomic physics with applied techniques in acoustic manipulation and educational innovation.
