Scott L. Morgensen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Gender Studies at Queen’s University. His work bridges queer and feminist anthropology with Indigenous studies, race studies, and colonialism critique. He co-founded the Queen’s Feminist Ethnography Network and served as Graduate Chair, instrumental in launching the Gender Studies PhD program. Morgensen holds a PhD in Anthropology (Women’s Studies) from UC Santa Cruz, with earlier degrees from UC Santa Cruz and UC Berkeley.
Research focuses on queer ethnography, feminist pedagogies, and decolonial methodologies. His award-winning book Spaces between Us examines queer settler colonialism and Indigenous decolonization. He currently serves on the editorial board of American Ethnologist and has held roles at American Quarterly and Critical Ethnic Studies.
Awarded the 2012 Ruth Benedict Prize, his scholarship emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to sexuality, race, and colonialism. Supervision areas include queer/trans studies, Indigenous studies, and HIV/AIDS politics. He advises on ethnography, community-based research, and activist methodologies.
