Scott Harding, PhD, serves as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut, where he also co-directs the PhD Program. He teaches across BSW, MSW, and doctoral curricula with courses focused on social welfare policy, macro practice, and War, Militarism, Peace, and Social Work.
His research centers on Community Organization, War, Militarism, and Peace Activism, and Forced Migration and Refugee Resettlement. Harding co-authored pivotal works including Breaking the War Habit: The Debate over Militarism in American Education (2022) and Counter-Recruitment and the Campaign to Demilitarize Public Schools (2015), examining militarism's societal impacts through social work frameworks.
Publications from 2007-2022 reveal consistent focus on refugee rights, human rights violations, and demilitarization efforts, with recent works addressing U.S. child soldier policies and refugee resettlement backlash. His scholarship demonstrates interdisciplinary engagement across human rights, conflict studies, and social justice advocacy.
As Co-Director of the PhD Program, Harding mentors doctoral candidates while serving on the Board of Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS), directly applying his research to refugee support initiatives through community partnerships and policy advocacy.
