Scott Gates is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Oslo and a Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). He serves as Director of the Center for the Study of Civil War (CSCW) at PRIO. His research focuses on international politics, conflict dynamics, bureaucratic politics, and democracy. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan and an MS in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota.
