Scott E. Fraser

Scott E. Fraser is a Provost Professor at the University of Southern California (USC), holding appointments across the Dornsife College of Letters Arts and Sciences, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Keck School of Medicine, and Viterbi School of Engineering. He serves as Director of Science Initiatives for USC. Previously, he was Chair of Physiology and Biophysics at UC Irvine and Anna L. Rosen Professor of Biology at Caltech, where he directed the Biological Imaging Center and co-founded the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience.

Education: BS in Physics (Harvey Mudd College, 1976); PhD in Biophysics (Johns Hopkins University, 1979).

His research focuses on imaging and molecular analysis of biological systems, emphasizing early development, organogenesis, and medical diagnostics. He pioneered interdisciplinary approaches combining physics, engineering, and biology, founding institutions like the Caltech Brain Imaging Center and the Rosen Center for Biological Engineering.

Awards include the Anna L. Rosen Professorship at Caltech. He has led initiatives in translational research, microscopy development, and collaborative scientific infrastructure (e.g., Shared Microscopes, TIC Media platforms).

Current roles involve overseeing USC science initiatives, integrating engineering, medicine, and life sciences. He maintains active participation in lab facilities and symposia organizing.
