Dr. Scott Curtis is the Dr. John Lining Professor of Physics and Director of the Near Center for Climate Studies at The Citadel. His research focuses on compound coastal hazards, climate vulnerability, and hydroclimatic patterns affecting rural communities.
Research examines:
- Compound flooding mechanisms in coastal zones
- Climate adaptation strategies for vulnerable communities
- Heat health impacts in urban environments
- Innovative climate education methods
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on:
- Spatial analysis of synchronized weather extremes
- Stakeholder-centered risk communication
- Community-led adaptation planning in flood-prone regions
Curtis leads EPA and NOAA-funded projects including 'Predicting Drinking Water Contamination from Extreme Weather' and the $1.2M COCA-SARP project on compound water hazards in rural communities. His research informs climate adaptation policies across Southeastern US coastal regions.
