Scott F. Crider is a Professor of English at the University of Dallas, affiliated with the Constantin College of Liberal Arts and the Braniff Graduate School. With a 30-year teaching career, he holds a PhD from the University of California, Riverside, and a Master of Theology from the University of Dallas. His academic leadership roles include directing UD’s Writing Program, the Seven Arts of Language Program, and serving as Associate Dean of Constantin College.
Crider specializes in Shakespearean studies and rhetorical theory, authoring three academic books: The Office of Assertion (2005), With What Persuasion (2009), and The Art of Persuasion (2019). His current work focuses on Beauty Matters: Shakespeare's Sonnets and the Art of Poetry. He has published widely on classical and Renaissance texts, including studies on Genesis, Homer, Augustine, Dante, and Michelangelo.
His research trends emphasize interdisciplinary connections between rhetoric, ethics, and literature, with a focus on Shakespeare’s engagement with classical traditions. Collaborations include a travel memoir with his wife, Trang M. Crider, titled Love Among the Castelli Romani (2024), and a sequel in progress. Awards include the Haggerty, Haggar, and King teaching honors.
Crider has advised numerous students through his teaching and administrative roles, emphasizing pedagogical innovation and the integration of liberal arts. His work often explores the ethical dimensions of rhetoric and the enduring relevance of classical thought to contemporary discourse.
