Scott Boylston

Scott Boylston is a Professor of Design for Sustainability at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where he has served since 2008. He holds dual roles as Professor and Graduate Coordinator for the Design for Sustainability programs, overseeing curriculum development, faculty hiring, and academic assessments. His expertise spans sustainable design, graphic design, and environmental advocacy, with a focus on integrating ethical practices into design education and industry.

Boylston’s research interests center on sustainability’s intersection with design, emphasizing waste reduction, ethical branding, and systemic approaches to environmental challenges. He co-founded SCAD’s M.A. and M.F.A. programs in Design for Sustainability and leads initiatives like the Eco-Practices and Sustainability Council. His work often explores design’s role in addressing climate change, urbanization, and resource management.

He has authored over 20 publications and presentations, including articles on post-harvest loss, the Anthropocene’s impact on design, and equitable urban development. His non-academic contributions include founding Emergent Structures, a nonprofit addressing material waste, and co-creating the Design Ethos conference series.
