Scarlet Cheng is a Senior Lecturer in Art History (Film Studies) at Liberal Arts and Sciences at Otis College of Art and Design. With a career spanning over two decades, she has taught part-time at Otis since 2004, blending academic instruction with extensive experience in art journalism and curatorial work.
Education:

- BA in School of International Service, American University, Washington, D.C.
Her research and professional work focus on Art History, Film Studies, and Cultural Diplomacy, with a particular emphasis on Chinese cinema, contemporary art analysis, and cross-cultural visual culture. Her publications include studies on transnational film movements, diaspora artists, and material culture in modern craft.
While her recent articles (2011–2018) span topics from Chinese diaspora cinema to wood sculpture, the threads of transnational narratives, art criticism, and media studies are consistent across her work. These publications reflect her expertise in bridging historical analysis with contemporary creative practices.
Scarlet Cheng collaborates extensively with cultural institutions, notably contributing to the first Chinese film series at the Smithsonian Institute. Her career prior to Otis includes editorial roles at Asian Artnews (Hong Kong) and Time-Life Books (Alexandria, VA), underscoring her interdisciplinary approach to art and film scholarship.
