معرفی
Dr. Savraj Grewal is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine, where he also serves as Senior Associate Dean (Research). He is Associate Director of Basic & Translational Research at the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute and a Child Health & Wellness Researcher at the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute.
Educational Background:
- B.S. in Pharmacology, King's College, 1992
- Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Oregon Health & Sciences University, 2001
Dr. Grewal completed postdoctoral research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center before joining the University of Calgary faculty in 2007. His research program investigates fundamental mechanisms of cell growth and proliferation using Drosophila melanogaster as a model system, with applications to understanding cancer development and human disease.
Research Focus: Dr. Grewal's laboratory studies how cells grow and multiply, with particular emphasis on the regulation of hypoxia tolerance, ribosome synthesis, transfer RNA synthesis, and translational control. His work explores how these fundamental cellular processes, which are remarkably conserved across species, relate to human health and disease. The lab is a member of the Clark Smith Brain Tumor Research Program at the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute.
Dr. Grewal participates in the University's Child Health and Wellness strategic initiative (2020-2025) and teaches courses including MDGE 723 (Translational Protein Folding) and MDSC 541 (Advanced Genetics).
Lab Leadership: The Grewal Lab maintains an active research team with multiple graduate students and research associates investigating growth control mechanisms. The lab has trained numerous PhD and MSc students who have gone on to successful careers in research.
