Satu Kuure

Satu Kuure is a Research Fellow at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Medicine, serving as Research Coordinator for the Stem Cells and Metabolism Research Program within the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE). She supervises doctoral students in both the Doctoral Programme in Biomedicine and the Doctoral Programme in Integrative Life Science, demonstrating her significant academic standing and expertise.

Her research focuses on kidney development, stem cell biology, and metabolic processes, with particular emphasis on ureteric bud branching morphogenesis, cellular stress responses, and tissue engineering applications. Her work bridges developmental biology with clinical applications, investigating both fundamental mechanisms and potential therapeutic approaches for congenital disorders and tissue regeneration.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on advanced imaging techniques for kidney research, genetic regulation of developmental processes, and biomaterial applications for urological conditions. Her interdisciplinary approach combines molecular biology, cellular imaging, and animal models to address complex questions in organ development and disease mechanisms.

Dr. Kuure actively mentors doctoral students and participates in academic committees, including serving as an opponent for PhD theses and as an expert member of the COST Association. She has examined multiple doctoral theses since 2015, demonstrating her commitment to academic training.

She leads significant research infrastructure, notably the Genetically Modified Rodents facility at HiLIFE, and currently manages three major research projects: E!5492 GLUTAMATARGET (2024-2027), Biocenter Finland FIRI2023 (2024-2025), and E!2228 CASERPINA (2023-2025), with combined funding exceeding €200,000 from Business Finland and the Academy of Finland.
