Satoshi Kimura serves as an Assistant Professor of Microbial Pathogenesis within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. His research program investigates translation mechanisms in bacterial pathogens to develop novel therapeutics for infectious diseases.
Dr. Kimura earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the University of Tokyo, followed by postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School under Dr. Matthew Waldor where he pioneered high-throughput tRNA modification profiling in pathogens.
The Kimura Lab focuses on five interconnected research areas: (1) translation modulation mechanisms in pathogenesis; (2) translation-metabolism crosstalk; (3) tRNA modifications across pathogens and commensals; (4) codon usage patterns in virulence gene expression; and (5) small-molecule targeting of translation factors. The lab integrates biochemical approaches, RNA mass spectrometry, high-throughput sequencing, bioinformatics, and animal infection models.
As a member of the RNA Society, Dr. Kimura contributes to RNA research communities. No scientific awards or student advising details were mentioned in the provided materials, but his work bridges fundamental RNA biology and infectious disease pathogenesis with therapeutic development potential.
