معرفی
Satish Kumar is a Distinguished McKnight University Professor at the University of Minnesota leading the Fluid Mechanics & Transport research group. His work integrates transport phenomena, colloid science, rheology, and computational mathematics to solve fundamental challenges in materials processing, with strong industrial relevance to coating, printing, microfluidics, and energy applications. Based in Amundson Hall, Minneapolis, he maintains an active research program with significant publication output and graduate mentorship.
His research focuses on dynamic wetting mechanisms, interfacial instabilities, suspension flows in coating processes, and polymer dynamics near patterned surfaces. Current investigations address critical industrial problems like air entrainment in high-speed coating, particulate suspension defects in electronics manufacturing, and electrostatic assist in printing processes. The group employs combined theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches to unravel complex fluid behavior at interfaces.
Recent publications (2022-2025) reveal consistent emphasis on thin-film dynamics, droplet evaporation/rupture phenomena, and capillary flows in microchannels. Key trends include modeling colloidal suspension behavior in confined geometries, surfactant effects on interfacial stability, and viscoelastic flow instabilities, with direct applications in energy and electronics manufacturing. The work bridges fundamental fluid mechanics with practical industrial process optimization.
