Prof. Sascha Preu is a Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Darmstadt, leading research in Terahertz Devices and Systems. He holds a doctoral degree (summa cum laude) from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and has conducted postdoctoral research at institutions like the Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light and UC Santa Barbara. His academic roles include leading the LOEWE-Sensors Towards Terahertz priority program since 2014.
Education:
- 2009–2010: Postdoc at Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Erlangen
- 2005–2009: Doctoral studies (summa cum laude) at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg
- 2000–2005: Diploma in Physics, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg
Research focuses on Terahertz Technology, including THz sources, detectors, and applications such as non-invasive glucose sensing, biomedical imaging, and material characterization. Key areas include:
- Development of advanced THz transceivers and photonic integrated circuits
- Optimization of Schottky diodes and field-effect transistor detectors
- Applications in additive manufacturing for optical components
Publications emphasize innovations in THz systems, with recent work addressing broadband detectors, tunable filters, and high-resolution spectral analysis. His research bridges fundamental material science and applied engineering, aiming to advance THz technology for industrial and biomedical uses.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Terahertz Devices and Systems group at TU Darmstadt, collaborating on EU-funded initiatives and interdisciplinary projects.
