Saretta Marotta is a Research Fellow at Ca' Foscari University of Venice's Department of Humanities, specializing in the History of Christianity and Ecclesiastical Studies. Her current Marie Curie Cofund Fellowship (2022–2024) focuses on Pius XII's engagement with European Catholic ecumenism during 1939–1958. She holds a PhD from the Universities of Modena and Munich, with prior postdoctoral roles at KU Leuven (2018–2022) and research at FSCIRE (2008–2017).
Research Interests: Her work centers on 20th-century Catholic ecumenism, Vatican diplomacy, and the evolution of interfaith relations. Key areas include the role of Augustin Bea in ecumenical developments, Holy See strategies under Pius XII, and institutional responses to post-WWII religious movements.
Teaching: She teaches Contemporary Christianity and Relationships with Other Religions in the MA program, focusing on modern ecumenical dynamics and religious pluralism.
Publications: Over 30 scholarly works include monographs like Gli anni della pazienza (2020) and articles analyzing Vatican II-era ecumenical policies, Cold War religious diplomacy, and historical church-state conflicts in Italy. Recent work emphasizes Pius XII’s strategic engagement with international ecumenical initiatives.
