Sarah Steele is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University and a part-time Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences. Her research focuses on auditory neuroscience, bridging neuroscience and clinical audiology through the use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to explore auditory efferent pathways and their implications for disorders like tinnitus.
- Education: Master of Clinical Audiology (Macquarie University, 2024, Academic Excellence), Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Sciences (Macquarie University, 2022, Distinction).
Her research combines cortical and auditory system measurements to understand cortical modulation effects on auditory processing. She has presented at multiple symposia and conferences, including the Audiology Australia 2025 Conference.
Scientific awards include the RTP Scholarship (2025), Macquarie University Academic Excellence Award (2024), National Acoustic Laboratories Award (2024), and Phonak Audiology Prize (2023).
- Teaching: Lecturer for SPHL3312 (Speech Perception and Hearing Science), Marker for SPHL2212 (Introduction to Audiology), and completion of the STEPS microcredential in teaching development.
Sarah advocates for inclusion in STEM and volunteers with Hearing Matters Australia to support hearing loss communities.
