Sarah Rushton is a Senior Lecturer in Visual Communication at Staffordshire University, specializing in illustration and graphic design. Her academic journey began with distinction from an MA in Graphic Design & Illustration at Birmingham Institute of Art & Design. She has extensive experience in curriculum development and course leadership across Further and Higher Education institutions.
Her research focuses on building creative confidence and resilience, with emphasis on 'Creativity for Good' initiatives that embed socially responsible practices into educational frameworks. Rushton explores experimental letterpress techniques and hybrid printmaking processes, examining the interplay between typography and visual languages.
She has received significant recognition including an Innovative & Applied Learning Award for nurturing individual talent through self-authorship. Rushton maintains professional memberships with Design and Art Directors (D&AD) and Association of Illustrators (AOI).
Beyond teaching, she founded the P.S. (Post Staffs) alumni network to connect students with creative industry opportunities. Her creative practice includes co-authoring 'The Mare's Tale' - an interdisciplinary art project combining typography with sculpture, printmaking, and animation.
