She divides her time between Beijing and Cambridge, maintaining dual affiliations. She studied Natural Sciences (Chemistry) at the University of Cambridge and earned her PhD in Protein Chemistry in 1997 under Prof. Sir Alan Fersht FRS. Her research focuses on protein folding mechanisms, amyloid formation, and prion propagation, with over 100 publications and editorial roles at Essays in Biochemistry.
- University of Cambridge: BSc in Natural Sciences (Chemistry), PhD in Protein Chemistry
Her scientific work spans neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Tau aggregation), Hsp70 chaperones, and redox-regulated protein dynamics. She has pioneered studies on liquid-liquid phase separation and single-molecule analysis of amyloid pathways.
Scientific recognition includes:
- OBE (2015) for UK/China relations in science
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2017)
