Sarah Ogilvie is Professor of Language and Lexicography in the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology, and Phonetics at the University of Oxford, and Senior Research Fellow at Campion Hall. She previously taught at Stanford and Cambridge, and worked at Amazon's Lab 126 in Silicon Valley. Her career includes roles as editor of the Oxford English Dictionary and Chief Editor of Oxford Dictionaries in Australia.
- Education: DPhil in Linguistics (University of Oxford), MA in Linguistics (Australian National University), BSc in Computer Science and Pure Mathematics (University of Queensland).
Her research spans lexicography, endangered languages, digital humanities, and the intersection of technology with social sciences. She directs Oxford's Dictionary Lab and co-founded the MSc in Digital Scholarship. Her work includes documenting Aboriginal Australian and American Indian languages, and the threatened Enggano language of Indonesia.
Selected publications highlight her expertise in dictionary history (Words of the World, The Dictionary People), language preservation (Keeping Languages Alive), and digital culture analysis (Gen Z, Explained). Her projects often integrate computational methods and open-source tools.

She serves on advisory boards for the Chicago Manual of Style and Stanford University Libraries, and contributes to Prospect Magazine's column The Joy of Lex.
