Professor Sarah Nemiah Ladd is a distinguished academic at the University of Basel, holding a position in the Department of Environmental Sciences within the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences. Her research focuses on organic geochemistry with particular emphasis on biomarker analysis and paleoenvironmental reconstruction.
Dr. Ladd's research interests span organic geochemistry, environmental sciences, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, biomarker analysis, and stable isotope geochemistry. Her work examines the complex interrelationships between the biosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and anthroposphere, contributing to our understanding of Earth's systems and environmental changes over time.
Her recent publications demonstrate expertise in analyzing lipid biomarkers, stable isotopes, and sediment records to reconstruct past environmental conditions. These studies examine plant wax compounds, algal lipids, and brGDGTs (branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers) to understand hydroclimate dynamics, phytoplankton community changes, and anoxic water column processes throughout geological time periods including the Younger Dryas.
Professor Ladd's research contributes significantly to the Department of Environmental Sciences' mission of studying environmental changes and their implications for life on Earth, providing critical insights into both historical Earth system evolution and contemporary environmental challenges.
