Sarah Moody is an Associate Professor of Spanish at the University of Alabama, where she directs the Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies Program and advises the program’s minor. She teaches Latin American literature courses spanning the colonial period to the 20th century, with graduate seminars focused on 1800–1915. Moody is affiliated with Sigma Delta Pi (Beta Alpha chapter) and professional organizations like the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) and the Modern Language Association (MLA).

Research Interests
Mody specializes in Modernismo and women’s writing in Latin America, examining intersections of aesthetics, gender, and identity in 19th- and early 20th-century literature. Her work explores exclusionary dynamics in Modernismo, urban reform in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, and enslaved women’s narratives in Cuba. Current research focuses on the Cuban magazine Minerva: Revista Quincenal Dedicada a la Mujer de Color (1888–89).

Mody’s book Las Raras (2024) investigates femininity in Modernismo and women’s strategies for literary success. She has secured grants for her NEH-funded project on Cuban periodicals.
