Sarah Milne Pourciau is an Associate Professor of German Studies at Duke University and Director of Graduate Studies for the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies. She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (2007) and has held academic positions at Stanford University, Princeton University, and institutions in Berlin. Her research focuses on intersections between philosophy and literature in 19th- and 20th-century German and Austrian culture, with expertise in literary theory, aesthetics, gender studies, and theological history.

Research Interests: Pourciau’s work interrogates how philosophical concepts shape literary forms and cultural expression. Her projects explore themes like nihilism in Kafka, political aesthetics in Weimar cinema, and the philosophical underpinnings of literary genres.
