Prof. Dr. Sarah Michiels is a Professor at Hasselt University, specializing in audiology and neurology with a focus on somatic tinnitus. Her research addresses the diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus linked to neck/jaw muscle tension, including the development of the RaSST diagnostic tool and smartphone app-based therapies. She investigates how physical activity and lifestyle influence tinnitus severity, with studies involving over 800,000 individuals in Flanders. Current projects include a randomized controlled trial (CATT) assessing a mobile app’s efficacy and exploring brain differences in somatic tinnitus patients.
