Sarah Maiter is Professor in York University's School of Social Work specializing in anti-oppressive approaches to child welfare. Her research examines how race, culture, and ethnicity impact child welfare systems and develops culturally grounded interventions.
Research focuses on:
- Racial equity in child protection
- Trauma-informed care for immigrant families
- Participatory action research methods
- Community-based mental health supports
Leads SSHRC-funded projects: 'Taking Culture Seriously in Community Mental Health' (CURA) and 'The Self-Other Issue in the Healing Practices of Racialized Minority Youth'. Collaborates with community partners to co-develop service models.
