Sarah Maiter

Sarah Maiter is Professor in York University's School of Social Work specializing in anti-oppressive approaches to child welfare. Her research examines how race, culture, and ethnicity impact child welfare systems and develops culturally grounded interventions.

Research focuses on:

• Racial equity in child protection
• Trauma-informed care for immigrant families
• Participatory action research methods
• Community-based mental health supports

Leads SSHRC-funded projects: 'Taking Culture Seriously in Community Mental Health' (CURA) and 'The Self-Other Issue in the Healing Practices of Racialized Minority Youth'. Collaborates with community partners to co-develop service models.
