Sarah L. Thomas is an Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies and Chair of the Hispanic Studies department at Brown University since 2013. Her research focuses on contemporary Iberian fiction and film, with secondary interests in Latin American cinema and translation studies. She specializes in post-dictatorship societies, gender studies, and memory studies, examining how literature and cinema represent subjectivity, temporality, and space. Her work bridges film theory, psychoanalysis, and cultural studies.
Her major publications include Inhabiting the In-Between: Childhood and Cinema in Spain's Long Transition (2019) and articles on Spanish crisis cinema, rural gender dynamics, and spectral presence in film. She is currently co-authoring a monograph on female incarceration under Franco and developing a project on female subjectivity in Iberian cinema.
