Sarah Kreps is the John L. Wetherill Professor in the Department of Government at Cornell University and Director of the Cornell Brooks School Tech Policy Institute. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law and holds external roles including Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Her research focuses on the intersection of international politics, technology, and national security with notable works on drone warfare, AI governance, and the impact of emerging technologies on democracy.
Education: BA from Harvard University, MA from University of Oxford, PhD from Georgetown University. Former US Air Force officer (1999–2003).
Research interests include the ethical and strategic implications of drones, AI's impact on democratic systems, cybersecurity policy, and the political economy of warfare financing. She has published five books and over 100 articles in journals like International Security, World Politics, and Science Advances.
Recent work emphasizes AI's dual potential to undermine democratic trust through misinformation and enhance governance through improved communication tools. She advocates for human-centered AI policy frameworks and digital literacy education.
Awards include fellowships at Harvard Kennedy School, Council on Foreign Relations, and the Miller Center for Public Affairs. Active in policy engagement through think tanks and congressional testimony. Currently leads research initiatives on vaccine campaign communication, geopolitical AI competition, and outer space governance.
