Professor Sarah Koch is a faculty member at the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel, leading the Department of Applied Exercise Physiology. Her research spans exercise physiology, sports medicine, and health promotion, with a focus on motor performance, psychosocial health, and systems physiology.
Her work intersects with projects like now! (interventions for adolescents with special needs), HIT-GLAUCOMA (exercise and glaucoma), and BefiA (physical activity in aging populations). Collaborations include institutions like the PH Zürich, Shenzhen University, and Aspetar Hospital in Qatar.
The department’s research also explores lipid profiling in athletes, overtraining syndrome biomarkers, and the role of physical activity in preventing age-related decline. Recent publications highlight connections between motor competence and executive function in children (Psychology of Sport and Exercise, 2025).
