Her research and performance focus centers on 20th-century music, including French Impressionism, Tin Pan Alley, and modern ragtime. Notably, her doctoral dissertation examined the work of Dana Suesse, an underrecognized female composer associated with Tin Pan Alley and Gershwin’s contemporaries. Dr. Johnson has performed extensively with orchestras in Missouri and Illinois, including Gershwin’s Concerto in F with LSU Symphony.
She has taught as a guest lecturer at Southeastern Louisiana University and Southern University and A&M College. Currently, she maintains a private piano studio teaching students of all ages and backgrounds.
