Dr. Sarah Jefferson is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Director for the High Achieving Teachers Program at Edith Cowan University's School of Education. She holds a PhD from ECU (2020) and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Western Australia (1997). Her research focuses on social support for teachers, veteran teacher retention, and educational policy. She has advised government agencies on curriculum and inclusion policies and is a Scholar at the UWA Not-for-Profit Research Group.
Research interests include teacher well-being, diversity in education, and public value in human services. Her work often explores how social connections and policy design impact educator satisfaction and career longevity. Recent studies highlight the role of social support in retaining positive veteran teachers.
Awards include the 2023 ECU Media Award (Highly Commended) and 2020 School of Education Best Paper Award. She has held leadership roles with ACSSO and the Teachers Registration Board of Western Australia. Current supervisions focus on home economics teachers' perceptions of 21st-century relevance.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Not-for-Profit UWA Research Group and leads the High Achieving Teachers Program. Engaged in interdisciplinary projects bridging education and non-profit sectors.
