Sarah J Halford is a Harvard College Fellow at Harvard University's Harvard College within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Her research centers on social movements, culture, and media with critical focus on mis/disinformation, institutional distrust, conspiracy theories, and online radical movements. As a qualitative researcher specializing in digital ethnography, she examines how distrust in institutions drives recruitment and sustained participation in fringe communities.
Dr. Halford earned her PhD from Brandeis University in 2024. Her methodological expertise in digital ethnography provides unique insights into the cultural mechanisms of online radicalization and belief systems. Key research domains include:
