Sarah Hines is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Oklahoma, specializing in Latin American and Caribbean history with a focus on environmental struggles, infrastructure, race, and social movements. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from UC Berkeley, an M.Ed. from City University of New York, and a B.A. from Barnard College.

Her research examines the intersection of ecological change and political mobilization in Bolivia. The National Endowment for the Humanities, National Science Foundation, and Mellon Foundation have funded her work. She previously taught at Smith College and the University of Maine at Machias before joining OU.
Her publications analyze long-term water tenure conflicts, developmentalist governance tensions, and the role of grassroots activism in shaping environmental policies. Current projects include a book on climate change impacts in the Bolivian Andes through Indigenous perspectives.
