Sarah Hagelin serves as Associate Professor of English at the University of Colorado Denver's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with affiliate appointments in the Women's and Gender Studies Program. She currently holds the interim chair position for the Ethnic Studies Department while maintaining active teaching responsibilities in film, television, and American popular culture studies.
Her research expertise spans Film Studies, Television Studies, American Popular Culture, Feminist Media Studies, and Critical Race Theory. Hagelin examines power dynamics through gendered and racialized lenses in contemporary media, with particular focus on antihero narratives, vulnerability frameworks, and representations of systemic oppression. Her work consistently interrogates how popular culture both reflects and shapes societal power structures.
