Sarah Giddings

Sarah Giddings is an Associate Professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, specializing in physical oceanography with a focus on estuarine/coastal ocean interactions, bio-physical interactions, and estuarine dynamics. She integrates observational, numerical, and analytical approaches in coastal research, emphasizing interdisciplinary applications to biology, chemistry, and policy.

• Education: PhD and MS in Civil & Environmental Engineering (Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology) from Stanford University, BS in Civil & Environmental Engineering from UC Berkeley.

Her research spans coastal hydro-morphodynamics, real-time coastal modeling, and particle transport, supported by NSF CAREER funding. She collaborates with graduate students like Helen Zhang, Niv Anidjar, Sierra Byrne, and Victoria Boatwright on topics ranging from river plumes to coastal flooding. Her lab utilizes advanced tools including echoboats, UAV surveys, and LiDAR, with outreach initiatives like the Love Your Wetlands event.
