Sarah Cahill

Sarah Cahill is a faculty member in the Department of Music History and Literature at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM). She teaches courses such as Keyboard Literature: 20th Century and actively collaborates with ensembles like the Alexander String Quartet and New Century Chamber Orchestra. Her research focuses on 20th-century piano music, minimalist composition, and contemporary classical works. Cahill holds a BA from the University of Michigan.

Her academic publications include entries in Grove Music Online, Oxford Music Online, and Contemporary Music Review, emphasizing composers like John Adams and Frederic Rzewski. She has produced notable events, including a three-day festival celebrating Henry Cowell’s centenary, which garnered media attention from The New Yorker and LA Times.

Cahill is also an active performer, with recordings on labels like New Albion, featuring works by Ravel, Henry Cowell, and Leo Ornstein. Her unrealized project includes video lectures on 20th- and 21st-century music.
