Sarah E. Brookes is an Assistant Professor in the Communication Department at SUNY Geneseo. She holds a PhD and MA from The Ohio State University, and a BA from Mount Union College. Her research examines psychological responses to media narratives, particularly how spoilers and fan theories influence viewer engagement.
Brookes' work explores emotional and cognitive processing of entertainment media across television, film, and digital platforms. Recent publications analyze spoiler selection as emotional self-protection and unexpected narrative endings.
She teaches courses including Introduction to Mass Communication, Media Entertainment, and Media Ethics, focusing on sociocultural impacts of media and emotional responses to content.
