Sarah Barlow

Dr. Sarah Barlow is a pediatric gastroenterologist and associate professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics. She specializes in childhood obesity prevention, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and pediatric nutrition. Her career includes roles at Saint Louis University (1998–2007) and Baylor College of Medicine (2007–2016). She earned her medical degree from UT Southwestern, a pediatric residency at Brown University, and a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard. Dr. Barlow has led major programs, including Texas Children’s Hospital’s Center for Childhood Obesity and the Texas Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration (TX CORD) project, focusing on healthcare and community interventions in low-income areas.

Her research emphasizes NAFLD pathophysiology, obesity-related metabolic complications, and effective weight management strategies. Key projects include the NIDDK-sponsored NASH Clinical Research Network (2013–2016) and clinical trials evaluating treatments like MetAP2 inhibition in Prader-Willi syndrome.
