Dr. Sarah B Ammerman is an Associate Professor in the Deaf Education and Hearing Science (DEHS) Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, holding the Harriet and J. David Oppenheimer Endowed Professorship. Her expertise focuses on deaf education with an emphasis on listening and spoken language development. She previously taught at the Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech.
Education:
- Bachelor’s in deaf education and elementary education (dual major)
- Master’s in deaf education (listening and spoken language)
- Doctorate in special education with a minor in audiology
Research interests include professional development for deaf education faculty, reciprocal peer coaching/mentoring, and cochlear implant interventions. She co-led a national workshop on cochlear implants for speech-language pathologists and audiologists. The DEHS Program received Department of Education grants in 2010 and 2013 for research in deaf education.

Advising & Grants: Co-led the 2010/2013 Department of Education-funded DEHS grants. Serves as a national reviewer for the Department of Education and the Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education.
Labs/Teams: Co-Executive Director of the Council on Education of the Deaf (CED).
