Sarah Alford is an Assistant Professor of Craft History and Theory at Alberta University of the Arts, Canada. Her research focuses on 19th-century design history, particularly the intersection of botanical science and Victorian design practices. She authored the book Art Botany in British Design Reform, 1835-1865, which examines how botanical classification influenced decorative arts and industrial design during the Victorian era. Her work bridges design history and the history of science, analyzing figures like Sarah Drake, John Lindley, and Christopher Dresser.
Alford has presented at conferences such as the College Art Association and Canadian Craft Biennial. Her writing appears in the Journal of Design History.
