Dr. Sara Vakhshouri is an Adjunct Professor of Energy Security at the Institute of World Politics (IWP) and serves as Chair of the Center for Energy Security and Diplomacy at IWP. She is also the Founder and President of SVB Energy International, a strategic energy consulting firm based in Washington DC and Dubai. With over two decades of expertise, her work focuses on global energy market analysis, energy security, geopolitical risk, and the geopolitics of energy.
She holds a Ph.D. in Energy Security and Middle Eastern Studies, an M.A. in Business Management (International Marketing), and an M.A. in International Relations. Dr. Vakhshouri has advised U.S. and European governments, financial institutions, and corporations on energy markets, trading, and geopolitical dynamics. Her research has been published in journals such as The Economist, Middle East Economic Survey, and Oil and Gas Journal, and she contributed to the World Energy Outlook 2018 by the International Energy Agency.
Dr. Vakhshouri frequently speaks at major energy conferences (e.g., Chatham House, LNG Global Congress) and is a sought-after media commentator on energy issues, appearing on platforms like Bloomberg, BBC, and The Wall Street Journal. She has authored The Marketing and Sale of Iranian Export Crude Oil since the Islamic Revolution and regularly briefs energy think tanks such as the International Energy Agency.
