Sara Oliveira

Sara M. Oliveira is a Staff Researcher at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) within Pastrana's Research Group. Her work combines food additive manufacturing and cellular agriculture to develop future food solutions promoting health and well-being.

• MSc in Biomedical Engineering (University of Minho, 2010)
• PhD in Bioengineering Systems (MIT-Portugal Program, 2014)

Research Focus:
Sara's interdisciplinary work bridges tissue engineering and food technology, including:

• 3D bioprinted systems for cellular agriculture
• Hybrid food structures with controlled texture
• Functional foods with enhanced bioactivity
• Personalized nutrition through additive manufacturing

Leadership & Impact:
She serves as Principal Investigator for multiple food innovation projects, including M3aTD (cell-based meats design) and InsectERA PRR (sustainable protein development). As a founding partner of CellAgri Portugal and co-chair of the International Conference of CellAgri Portugal (2023-2024), Sara drives cellular agriculture advancements across Europe.
