Sara Lindey, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of English at Saint Vincent College, where she teaches American literature, women's literature, and children's literature. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and B.A./B.J. degrees from the University of Missouri. Dr. Lindey advises students pursuing graduate studies in literature, law, education, and nonprofit work. She co-authored The Green Mister Rogers: Environmentalism in Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (2021) and has published widely on topics ranging from abolitionist children’s literature to dime novel technology narratives. Dr. Lindey actively mentors students through Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honor society, and frequently attends academic conferences with SVC students.
Her research explores intersections between cultural history and media, focusing on how children's literature and media reflect societal values. Notable areas include environmental ethics in children's media, abolitionist narratives, and gendered authorship in 19th-century periodicals. Her work bridges literary analysis with broader cultural and philosophical inquiries.
Dr. Lindey’s teaching spans traditional American literature surveys and specialized courses like Environmental Literature and Representing Childhood in Young Adult Literature. She emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, connecting historical texts to contemporary issues. Her course Composition: Language and Rhetoric underscores critical thinking through writing.
