Sara Escobar-Wiercinski is an Adjunct Professor at Wayne State University and founder/director of the MLC Modern Languages Centre in Windsor, Ontario. She holds a Ph.D. in Modern Languages (Spanish and Literary Criticism) from Wayne State University (2014), an M.A. in Spanish Language and Culture from Universidad de Salamanca (2001), and a B.A. in Administration from Universidad Santa María La Antigua, Panama (1987).
Her research focuses on Latin American socio-political issues, including power/knowledge dynamics, inequality, and violence in literature. She also studies second language education, sociolinguistics, and linguistics. Her work has explored themes in Panamanian literature, gender dynamics in Caribbean narratives, and educational materials development.
Publications include a book review on Caribbean literature (2015), conference proceedings analyzing power structures in Latin American novels (2013–2014), and a widely used Spanish language textbook (2006). She received a teaching excellence nomination in 2014 for her graduate instruction.
Teaching spans elementary Spanish courses at Wayne State and the University of Windsor since 2007, with upcoming courses in 2025. Her academic contributions bridge literary analysis and applied linguistics, emphasizing marginalized voices and pedagogical innovation.
