Santiago Sosa is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he serves as Head of Performance. He has previously taught at Vanderbilt University, Lipscomb University, Belmont University, Middle Tennessee State University, and the University of Kansas. Sosa is a multifaculity theatre professional with expertise in directing, acting, voice coaching, movement training, and fight direction, having co-founded From the Branch Theatre Company and served as Artistic Director for seven years.
- Education: BA in Acting and Directing from Texas State University; MFA in Acting from the University of Wisconsin.
His research and teaching interests focus on immersive performance techniques, Shakespearean interpretation, voice and text coaching, and pedagogy for actor training. He integrates practical theatre skills with academic instruction to foster holistic student development.
Sosa has been certified in multiple weapons by the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) and Dueling Arts International (DAI). He has collaborated with renowned theatre institutions such as American Players Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Nashville Shakespeare Festival, where he co-created educational programs and led apprentice companies.
