Santiago Alvarez Arango

Santiago Alvarez Arango, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Allergy & Immunology. He specializes in diagnosing and managing drug hypersensitivity reactions and addressing unverified drug allergy labels.

Education: Medical degree from Universidad CES (Colombia), Internal Medicine residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (NY), Allergy/Immunology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. PhD in clinical investigation from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, supported by an NIH-funded T32 fellowship.

Research focuses on drug allergy mechanisms and diagnostic advancements. Key affiliations include the Donald MacGlashan Lab and leadership roles in Johns Hopkins' Center of Anaphylaxis and Drug Development Unit before joining UT Southwestern in 2025.
